Hastings Bridge Construction
This gallery is a set of pictures taking us through some of the construction of the new Hastings MN bridge. The span is the longest tied arch bridge with a free-standing rib in the western hemisphere. It has to travel about 50 feet up to be in place. It is being lifted by four jacks, which each have a capacity of two million pounds. Each jack has 54 cables running to the bridge for a total of 216 cables. Each cable is 18 millimeters in diameter. Truly a historic event watching it go into place. I understand engineers from all over the world are here to experience this event.
